Positive Ageing

Rosacea is a chronic but treatable skin condition that primarily affects the central face and is seen as redness and flushing. It is often characterised by flare-ups and remissions.

Left untreated, inflammatory bumps and pimples can develop and in severe cases the skin can thicken and be swollen and uneven. It is a condition that can significantly affect self confidence and is often hard to disguise with make-up.

Acne is caused by abnormal hair follicle activity with subsequent blockage of the skin sebaceous (oil) glands. This leads to the presence of excessive oil on the skin surface and then colonisation with bacteria. Left untreated, Acne can cause unpleasant scarring on the skin surface.

The treatment options include prescriptions for example, oral antibiotics, changes to skin care routines, lifestyle advice, medical grade skin care systems like Obagi Clenziderm® or peels like Obagi Blue Peel Radiance®.

Additionally the use of injectables that are anti-inflammatory and promote healing and improve scars (Polynucleotides) and/or hormone management may be appropriate.

The signs and symptoms of rosacea and acne vary and treatments are advisable in order to avoid long term damage to the skin such as hyperpigmentation and scars, and to improve confidence.

Having healthy skin is the first step for my patients and the basis for any ongoing treatment.
