Have you ever noticed that your skin is always a bit pink or red? Do you consider your skin to be ‘sensitive’. Maybe you already know that you have rosacea?

Rosacea is one of the trickiest skin conditions to manage and can be distressing for patients.

The skin is the body’s biggest organ and the face accounts for 1-2% of this. Crucial roles include immunological defence and temperature regulation.

There is a lack of research in conditions like rosacea but our skin can be a reflection of health status and can be affected by many factors such as thyroid, menopause and anaemia. We are likely to be in good health if our skin is in good condition.

Skin has an effect on confidence and there is stigma around rosacea incorrectly linked to alcohol excess.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common condition that effects 5-20% of the population.

There is dysregulation of the immune system, overgrowth of microorganisms and genetic factors play a part. The skin barrier doesn’t function normally in rosacea and it can be.

  • Eythematotelangiectatic
  • Inflammatory or ‘acne rosacea’ (not acne)
  • Rhinophyma- nose or ocular-(eye)

Women are affected more than men but it is not known why. It may be that women are more likely to use more skincare products and these can trigger/worsen rosacea.

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition with redness, spots and irritation. The skin can become permanently thickened (affecting the nose – rhinophyma). It can be mild and come and go.

Rosacea is diagnosed usually with redness and flushing that can become more permanent affecting nose and cheeks mostly. Then central forehead and chin are less commonly affected. It can be triggered by spicy food, and temperature for example.

Rosacea Before Rosacea After

Correcting your skin care regimen is crucial to successful rosacea management

Menopause

There is no proof that hormones are involved but some women get more redness and flares cyclically with their period. Interestingly, peak diagnosis is 35y to 50y when menopause is often taking place. Rosacea ‘flushes’ are only on the face unlike the menopause flushes.

The most common trigger is the sun. UV light causes pain and burning, redness and flushing.

You may have had your skin analysed in the clinic using our Observ® skin scanner and have a new diagnosis of rosacea or you may have already known that you have rosacea. It is especially important to use the correct products and treatments for skin affected by rosacea so that the condition is not exacerbated.

We specialise in managing patients with Rosacea and this may include the following options

  • Trigger identification – skin care
  • Prescribed medications
  • Medical Grade skin care
  • Control of the skin micro biome
  • Hormone management
  • Laser

Trish is a Treasure and has done, for (ageing) me, some excellent work. It is so reassuring to be able to have confidence in her well-qualified hands and where everything is so relaxing, within her beautiful surroundings. Trish listens, offers advice and is so versatile. Highly recommended.

I saw Trish in February of this year, as I was really struggling to manage some really unpleasant symptoms of menopause. I really wanted a holistic individualised approach, as opposed to a one size fits all. I was so frustrated that the more conventional treatments weren't working for me, and began to feel that I was beyond help. I found my appointment with Trish an absolute eye opener, because of her attention to detail, her interest in me as a person, and her assessment of my history. All of this, helped her devise a plan for me that has really worked. I still have blips, but my family have noticed the change in me for the better. Trish is contactable, and has helped me with advice and support following my appointment for which I am so grateful for. I would highly recommend her to anybody who is struggling with menopause, and the many challenges that come along with it.

I first met Trish last year when I sought advice about ongoing menopausal issues. Trish has a thorough understanding of the menopause, her knowledge is up to date and her compassion is evident. I had some worrying symptoms that my GP felt did not warrant investigation but Trish provided me with a clear and concise assessment which my NHS GP took on board. This resulted in prompt action and subsequent treatment on the NHS which without her expertise I would not have had access to. To say I am grateful is an understatement! To say thank you really doesn’t seem to do justice to the support Trish provided, but thank you again. I would highly recommend Trish and I would not hesitate to seek her advice again if needed.

Another amazing treatment from Dr. Trish. This one to dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines above the top lip. Super pleased with the result including the look of the lips themselves (which I confess I was slightly concerned about). All of my treatments have been planned really carefully through a lot of discussion and I could not be happier with the results.

I have been going to Trish for my HRT as well as other anti-ageing treatments such as Obagi skincare and Botox for over a year. Imo she is a formidable ally for us pre/post and menopausal lasses: she took time to investigate my concerns, helped me sort out my HRT regiment according to my personal situation, which my GPs neither have the time nor resources to, and she keeps my treatment regiment monitored. I even got my husband signed up for Trish's HRT treatment and he's doing really well as well. I also totally trust Trish to do my Botox treatments - she's very gentle in her touch, precise in her dosing and clearly understands the facial anatomy better than many other practitioners not very thoroughly trained in the subject of human anatomy. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

My consultation with Dr Trish Davis was completely reassuring and reaffirming. It is clear she is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about her field, and incredibly thorough in her review of me as an individual. Dr Davis was exceptionally patient and understanding, and took the time to really understand my circumstances and tailor an HRT treatment plan to suit me.I left the appointment feeling heard, validated and positive about my next steps with HRT.I believe every women should be afforded that right and 100% recommend Dr Trish Davis.
